Retinal Vasculitis and Stroke Risk in Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
This dataset aims to assess the association between retinal vasculitis and cerebral stroke as well as mortality in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The data were sourced from the TriNetX research network, and after matching for age, sex, race, and cardiac risk factors, the study included 540 SLE patients with retinal vasculitis and 540 SLE patients without retinal vasculitis as controls. Outcomes, including stroke risk and mortality, were evaluated over a 20-year follow-up period. Statistical analyses involved risk ratios (RR), Kaplan-Meier analysis, and Cox proportional hazards modeling. Results indicated a significantly increased stroke risk in SLE patients with retinal vasculitis, underscoring the importance of early identification and timely referral for this patient group.
